Understanding the Medicine at Molecular Level
The Department of Biochemistry at Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women (PUMHSW), SBA, is dedicated to excellence in education, research, innovation, and professional development. Biochemistry is one of the fundamental pillars of medical science, providing the molecular basis for understanding normal physiology, disease mechanisms, diagnosis, and therapeutic interventions. A sound knowledge of biochemistry enables future healthcare professionals to understand the biochemical and genetic basis of health and disease and apply this knowledge in clinical practice.
"The Department plays a vital role in the integrated modular MBBS curriculum and actively contributes to Modules I, II, III, IV, and VII, including the teaching of Molecular Genetics and other advanced biomedical sciences."
The faculty is also involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in various Allied Health Sciences programs, including Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and programs offered through the Institute of Medical Technology.
The department employs diverse teaching methodologies, including lectures, small group discussions, tutorials, laboratory practicals, and research-based learning activities. Through practical laboratory training, students acquire essential analytical and diagnostic skills that support their professional and clinical development.
Research is a core strength of the department. We welcome scientists, educators, researchers, clinicians, and trainees from diverse backgrounds to join us in conducting biochemical and molecular research at the forefront of current scientific knowledge. Our faculty members are actively engaged in basic, clinical, and translational research, focusing on the characterisation of biological macromolecules and the understanding of biological processes at the molecular level.
Research groups within the department investigate the structure and function of biomolecules, elucidate molecular mechanisms underlying health and disease, and translate scientific discoveries into advancements in biomedical research, diagnostics, and healthcare.
The department offers postgraduate training through M.Phil. Biochemistry and PhD. Biochemistry programs. These programs provide advanced education and research opportunities in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Clinical Biochemistry, and related disciplines. Faculty members actively supervise undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral research projects and contribute to national and international scientific publications.
Advanced training in biochemical research, molecular biology, and clinical biochemistry with rigorous thesis work.
Doctoral program focusing on cutting-edge research in molecular medicine, genetics, and biomedical sciences.
