Curricular Outcomes

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programme at the Institute of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences (IPRS), PUMHSW, is designed in accordance with the HEC DPT Curriculum 2025, HEC Undergraduate Education Policy (UGEP) V1.1, and relevant Allied Health Professionals Council (AHPC) requirements.

The curricular outcomes are aligned with the Institute's mission and vision and are designed to develop competent, ethical, evidence-based, patient-centred and socially responsible physiotherapy professionals.

Upon successful completion of the DPT programme, graduates will be able to:

  1. Knowledge and Understanding — Demonstrate sound knowledge of basic medical sciences, clinical sciences, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, health promotion and disease prevention.
  2. Clinical Assessment and Reasoning — Apply appropriate assessment procedures, interpret findings, identify physiotherapy-related problems and demonstrate effective clinical reasoning.
  3. Evidence-Based Practice — Integrate scientific evidence, clinical expertise and patient needs in physiotherapy decision-making and management.
  4. Clinical and Professional Skills — Demonstrate safe and competent skills in therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, electrotherapy, functional rehabilitation and other appropriate physiotherapy interventions.
  5. Patient-Centred Care — Develop and implement individualized management plans considering patient needs, preferences, cultural values, functional goals and quality of life.
  6. Communication and Interprofessional Practice — Communicate effectively and collaborate respectfully with patients, families, communities and healthcare professionals.
  7. Research and Innovation — Apply research methodology, critical appraisal, data interpretation and scientific writing to support evidence generation and innovation.
  8. Professional Ethics and Responsibility — Demonstrate integrity, accountability, confidentiality, respect, compassion and adherence to professional, ethical and legal standards.
  9. Health Promotion and Community Rehabilitation — Apply physiotherapy knowledge and skills to health promotion, disease prevention, wellness and community-based rehabilitation.
  10. Leadership and Lifelong Learning — Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, problem-solving and organizational skills with commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
  11. Digital and Information Literacy — Use appropriate digital technologies and information resources to support education, research, documentation, communication and professional practice.
  12. Social and Professional Responsibility — Contribute to improving health, functional independence and quality of life through accessible, inclusive and socially responsible physiotherapy services.

The IPRS Curricular Outcomes operationalize the four overarching HEC DPT 2025 Programme Learning Outcomes relating to:

  • PLO-1: Knowledge of basic and clinical health sciences relevant to Physical Therapy.
  • PLO-2: Application of knowledge, skills and professional abilities in Physical Therapy.
  • PLO-3: Effective communication, collaboration and professional ethical practice.

The DPT graduate of IPRS, PUMHSW, will be a competent, ethical, evidence-based, patient-centred and socially responsible physiotherapy professional capable of applying knowledge and clinical skills, demonstrating appropriate professional behaviour, and contributing to healthcare through clinical practice, rehabilitation, research, community services and lifelong learning.
